FORMAT19 OPENS ITS DOORS

Derby’s museums, art galleries, pop-up and renovated spaces and buildings will open their doors as the ninth edition of the FORMAT international photography festival gets underway.

Come and hear the opening speeches at the official opening at 17.30 in QUAD and then pop over to the Derby Market Hall where Craig Easton will introduce the UK wide project SIXTEEN at 18.30.

At the Derby Museum and Art Gallery, at 19.15 Senior Curator at the V&A, Martin Barnes along with Tony Butler will present the photography of Maurice Broomfield, followed by Gemma Marmalade and Patron of FORMAT Brian Griffin's welcome addresses at the Tramshed at 20.00.

Nearby at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery on the Wardwick the FORMAT19 Photobook Market will be open for business and the Scanning Social will copy your childhood photographs and youthful paper memorabilia to add them to the collections of the Museum of Youth Culture.

At the Smallprint Company, The Office of Revised Futures will be performing a live intervention as the five artists, Lewis Bush, Melinda Gibson, Hannah Hughes, Fernando Martin Gody and Mark Murphy work together on their collaborative installation.

After visiting the previews and listening to the speeches, you may be in need of refreshment so drop in to the Bustler bar for the FORMAT19 After Party and catch DJ Paul Lowe and special guest performance by Elvis (Bobby Aaron Diamond) and sample the street food market, Freedom Brewery craft beers, premium gins & cocktail menu, Inc Deckards, pan-Asian Bao buns, Street Chef, halloumi fries & more.
