Derby LIVE Drama in September

Derby LIVE Drama in September

September is set to be a stellar month at Derby LIVE for the drama enthusiast, who can look forward to a number of great productions at the Guildhall Theatre. From emotional musicals to chilling horror stories, there is something for everyone to enjoy this month.

Kristian Thomas Company are bringing In the Heights by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegria Hudes to the Guildhall Theatre from Wednesday 30 August to Saturday 2 September. In The Heights tells the story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighbourhood. This amateur production brings the story fresh from London’s West-End – a brand new, feisty yet loveable and exhilarating, yet emotional musical. Tickets prices range from £14.25 to £16.25 and concessions are available.

The Red Room is a spine-chilling new play based on the classic ghost story by H.G. Wells, brought to life by Rumpus Theatre Company. Everyone warned against it but stubbornness is a curious thing and one night, entirely alone in an apparently haunted room… It’s a familiar scenario but the outcome is totally unexpected. Enter The Red Room on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 September at the Guildhall Theatre. Tickets are priced at £15.25 with concessions available. This show is suitable for children aged 12 years and over.

Commissioned by First Art in association with Derby LIVE, Bess, The Commoner Queen, is a new play by Kevin Fegan. During a life of over 80 years, Bess rose from being a Derbyshire farmer’s daughter to become Elizabeth Countess of Shrewsbury. The life and times of Bess of Hardwick is in every way an epic life-telling. Three of the most iconic women of the age: Elizabeth Tudor Queen of England, Mary Stuart Queen of Scots and Bess Hardwick – The Commoner Queen embroidered into the same tapestry – when all about them were men. Bess takes centre stage in this one-woman show mixing theatre with film. Bess will be performed at the Guildhall Theatre from Thursday 28 September to Sunday 1 October, with tickets priced at £15 with concessions available.

Both Bess and The Red Room are part of the Derby LIVE LIVEsaver offer, where customers can see more and save. Booking both events includes a saving of 10%. More information is available at derbylive.co.uk/livesaver.
