Darker evenings – not a problem, there’s plenty to do indoors!

Inside is the place to be when the rain hits, the temperature drops and it’s dark when you leave work!

The bright lights of Derby Arena beckon for the outdoor cyclists who still want to get their pedalling fix without the need for their bike lights, shoe covers and waterproofs. Getting on the track is so easy thanks to the 4-step accreditation process where a coach will take you from beginner to a wannabe Jason or Laura Kenney!

Following the theme of learning new skills, Springwood Leisure Centre is the place to be for the little ones to take their first leap into gymnastics (4-16yrs) or trampolining (7-16yrs). Both are coached courses which follow the appropriate national body’s framework and are excellent fun. For the super young ones there’s ‘Spring tots’ which, runs during the day.

Swimming is a great, versatile indoor activity. Whether it’s with family, with friends or as an individual, it is both safe, fun and enjoyed by all ages. Aqua classes can really get the heart racing and provide a great opportunity to have proper workout and a good excuse to socialise too.

The Learn to Swim programme runs throughout the year at Queen’s Leisure Centre and isn’t just for children. Adults can be taken from non-swimmer to swimmer in no time. Autumn and winter are great time for non-swimmers or those lacking confidence to set themselves a challenge to build water confidence in time for their next summer holiday.

Did you know, those who take part in group exercise classes are more likely to keep their gym memberships going for longer? The Derby Active team do and that’s why Derby Arena, Springwood and Queen’s all offer a vast range of classes for all levels that are guaranteed to get heart rates up!

Racket sports are an all year round staple but in the cooler months they are brilliant to get involved in. From a fast-paced game of squash, competitive game of badminton or fun for all the family around a table tennis table, all options are covered at Derby Arena and Springwood.

Don’t let the weather and darker evenings get in the way of activity, as there is a still lot to do, safely indoors.

Information about all activities can be found at inderby.org.uk.
