Cricketing Students Gear Up For National Finals

Members of the Andrew Flintoff Cricket Academy based at Derby College’s Broomfield campus have reach the national finals of a colleges’ indoor cricket competition.

The team recently won the East Midlands AoC Sport (Association of College’s) regional competition which was hosted by Derby College.

They will now play in the national tournament at Trent Bridge on April 21 and 22 – playing against the winners of other regional finals.

The Academy, spearheaded by Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff is a partnership between Derby College and Activate Sport.

It aims to give aspiring young cricketers and cricket coaches the opportunity to develop their cricket and coaching skills while studying academic qualifications in Sport to enhance their career prospects.

AFCA coach Rahim Ali said: "The team has been training hard since the regional finals and continue to pull together really well. We expect an even tougher battle at Trent Bridge but it will be a great experience for all the team.”
