Coast To Coast Cyclists Support Viva’s Work in Local Communities

A group of cycling enthusiasts have completed a coast to coast challenge and raised £500 for Derby-based Sinfonia Viva orchestra’s ‘Make a Child Smile’ appeal.

Carl Muldal, who works at Rolls-Royce plc and is a board member of Sinfonia Viva, brought together a group of friends to cycle 140 miles west to east across the country in a weekend.

The money raised will go towards further expanding the orchestra’s work including a three-year creative project which has been established thanks to grant funding from BBC Children in Need.

Musicians, composers and workshop leaders from the Grammy-nominated orchestra will be working with hundreds of children and young people across the East Midlands who have long-term illnesses or special educational needs.

Carl said: “Music has always been an escape for me, a time to forget the everyday and focus on the music and the place it takes you. It's easy to forget how important this can be, especially for those living in the hardest situations.

“We were therefore keen to do this challenge and support the great work that Sinfonia Viva do with young people in local communities - allowing them to take a break from the everyday and gain some respite through music.”
