Cathedral Quarter Businesses Vote For Prize Project

Businesses across Derby’s Cathedral Quarter are currently voting for how they want to spend the prize money won by the area when it was recently crowned the Great British High Street Awards’ best city location.

The Cathedral Quarter awarded prize money of £5,000 and the Business Improvement District management group – made up of local business representatives - has drawn up a shortlist that is now subject to an online vote amongst businesses in the area.

The options shortlist is:

- A Cathedral Quarter Street Party or Celebration Day

- Additional advertising of the area to highlight it as an award-winning destination

-  A programme of workshops and training sessions on key topics

- Additional lighting of key buildings

- A programme of CQ celebration tours highlighting the area’s history and architecture

The online vote closes at 2pm on Wednesday June 7 and the project receiving the most votes will then be progressed by the BID’s management group which drives forward activities under the area’s BID status.

Group chair Martin Langsdale said: “The first part of our prize was a Digital workshop run by Google which was very well received by the businesses who chose to attend.

“We now need to ensure that the £5,000 prize money is spent to the best effect – benefiting the area as a whole and the businesses within it and helping to further raise the profile of this area as an award-winning destination.

“The businesses really got behind the BID in making sure that we clinched this prestigious award and it is only right that everyone should have the opportunity to vote on the shortlist of projects.”
