The Made In Derbyshire campaign has gone from strength to strength since launching at the start of 2015. There are thousands of followers on social media and nearly 500 companies have registered with the website so far to show their support for the campaign and their pride in their county.

Derbyshire Literature Festival in 2015 has been themed Made In Derbyshire and there are many more Made In Derbyshire themed events on the near horizon.

The panel chose this poem because they liked the way it juxtaposes pairs of ideas - the two counties, past and present, the spiritual and the everyday - but is based on an actual experience and place.

As Ralph explains:

'Alstonefield is a border town, Staffordshire-Derbyshire, Manifold-Dove and it welcomes both. I have never before been in a church like St Peter’s where you can make a cup of tea and share it with fellow travellers including those from the past who were less equal.'

Made in Derbyshire literally comes to life in this month's poem by Sian Tower.  Through its vivid use of language  we are reminded of the power of the River Derwent driving both the looms and the lives of the factory workers.

In her introduction Sian writes:

'Cromford in Derbyshire has been the subject of many of my poems. Bend in the River is about how the valley and river, which attracted industrialist Richard Arkwright to this area in 1771, have survived his endeavours. 

Calling all ‘Made in Derbyshire’ members, Derbyshire artists, crafts people, musicians and artisans. The Derbyshire Eco Centre Summer Fair 2015 will be a celebration of adult learning and all that is ‘Made in Derbyshire’; from food to crafts to musical acts and all that is in-between!

The Derwent Valley Heritage Way was opened by the previous Duke of Devonshire in April 2003. A guidebook was published to coincide with the opening but has been out of print for several years now. This new edition has been updated and has new maps from Ordnance Survey at 1:2500 scale with photographs to support the text.
