Businesses Join Forces To Spruce Up Area

St Peter's Quarter Derby

Media opportunity: Wednesday April 15, 8.30am, McDonalds, St Peters Street, Derby

Representatives from businesses across the St Peters Quarter area of Derby city centre will hold their first tidy up event of the year on Wednesday April 15.

The initiative is part of the Business Improvement District’s (BID) objective to improve the visitor experience in the area which is the core retail heart of the city centre between the Cathedral Quarter and Intu Derby shopping centre.

The businesses will join the St Peters Quarter Rangers and Derby City Council’s Street Pride team for an early morning litter pick. This event is organised by the St Peters Quarter BID and sponsored by McDonalds in St Peter’s Street.

Armed with litter pickers, gloves and bags, they will meet at 7am and split into groups to collect rubbish.

Helen Wathall, a member of St Peters Quarter BID Board which drives forward activities under the area’s Business Improvement District (BID) status said: “Keeping the streets in St Peters Quarter clean and tidy is an important part of our overall aim to improve the visitor experience and attract more people back into the area.

“The Business Tidy Up initiatives help to raise the profile of what every business should be doing to contribute to this overall aim.

“I am delighted that businesses are once again embracing the opportunities to work together through the BID for the good both of their own operations and of the area as a whole.”

Street Pride area manager Simon Aitken added: “Working closely with St Peters Quarter BID on initiatives such as this enables my team to better understand the needs of the business community. In turn, we can feedback on how businesses can take simple, but effective measures to keep our city tidier.”
