Arts Derbyshire is looking to recruit new Trustees and Advisory Board Members

Arts Derbyshire became a registered charity in 2019 and we are looking to recruit new Trustees and Advisory Board Members to help support and steer our work.

Could you help support Arts Derbyshire in delivering its charitable objectives, or share these opportunities with friends and colleagues?

Trustees

Typically, the commitment will be for 5-8 hours a month, attending monthly meetings, approving new policies and procedures, and overseeing our work.
The Board of Trustees carries out six main functions collectively to support and steer the organisation.

Trustees are expected to:

  • Ensure Arts Derbyshire is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
  • Comply with Arts Derbyshire’s governing document and the law
  • Act in Arts Derbyshire’s best interests
  • Manage Arts Derbyshire’s resources responsibly
  • Act with reasonable care and skill
  • Ensure Arts Derbyshire is accountable to its members, the public and the Charity Commission
  • Undertake short-term roles as and when necessary for the running of the charity. These are taken on in a voluntary capacity and within a flexible time frame.

The Board of Trustees works as a team, making joint decisions. You and your fellow trustees will be responsible for deciding and planning how the organisation carries out its purposes.

As a trustee you will decide together what activities Arts Derbyshire will undertake and think about the resources it will need.

Collectively, you will take responsibility for setting the charity’s strategic aims and direction, and agreeing appropriate future plans, operational structures and governance.

Meetings are currently held on Zoom and the head office for Arts Derbyshire is in Alfreton. Please note, experience in the arts is not essential.

Please send us a paragraph explaining why this voluntary role interests you, what you feel you could offer Arts Derbyshire along with a copy of your CV via email to our Administrator, Hannah, at admin@artsderbyshire.org.uk by 4pm, 29th November, 2021.

If you would like to discuss this further, please contact the Head of Arts, Ann, at ann.wright@derbyshire.gov.uk.

Advisory Board Members

The commitment for the Advisory Board will be for a few hours on an ‘as and when’ basis, attending the occasional trustees’ meetings and to advise on new policies and procedures when required. As an Advisory Board Member you will not be expected to have experience of working within the arts sector.

We are seeking expressions of interest from volunteers from all sectors with the following skills to join the Advisory Board:

  • Employment law inc. trade union and equality & diversity
  • Financial law inc. charity law, accounting and auditing
  • Funding and charity knowledge
  • General legal knowledge
  • Social prescribing (e.g. health practice, GPs, mental health)
  • Knowledge of other cultural sectors, such as countryside and landscape, sport and recreation, or museums and heritage
