Art Share and ArtStand unite for Autumn Community Art Sharing, Exhibition and Art Sale

The weekend of 16th & 17th October sees the welcome return of the Autumn Community Art Sharing presented by Art Share Crich at The Glebe Field Centre.

Alongside this there will be for the second year running an Exhibition and Art sale by artists in the ArtStand collective.

The two groups were so pleased with the success of their joint event last October, that they have decided to do it all over  again  this year but this time even bigger!

Art Share Crich will be sharing artwork from local schools, art and craft groups and members of the community along with work that was created by people who attended the Get Creative and Have Fun workshops held at The Crich Tramway Village this summer and were inspired by the beauty and character of Cliff Quarry. Prizes will also be awarded by international wildlife photographer Andy Parkinson, and artists Irene Brierton and Denise Cliffen, to the artworks which best capture the essence of The Cliff Quarry.

The event will celebrate everyday creativity of the people who live and work in the Crich Area and aims to inspire more people to take up arts and crafts as a way of improving their wellbeing, especially in relation to recovery from the pandemic.

Clare Limb, who is part of Art Share Crich, took part in one of the summer workshops ran by artist Denise Cliffen. Clare found it to be an uplifting experience ‘the beauty of the quarry and the Stand on top of the cliff really awakened my creativity and  improved my general sense of happiness’.

During the event there will be live music by local writer, poet and musician Martyn Offord, who will be sharing his songwriting art with attendees throughout the weekend.

The ArtStand exhibition and Art Sale will include work by locally based artists there will be a chance to  purchase art by the artists well.

A number of new local artists who have recently joined ArtStand, including professional artists:

  • Irene Brierton - who produces beautifully detailed animal studies in watercolour.
  • Frances Daunt - whose use of local maps as a background to her work is highly original.
  • Jonathan Amos - A landscape and portrait photographer at its finest. Make sure to look out for his more abstract work!
  • Denise Cliffen - wonderfully atmospheric landscapes drawn in amazing detail using pastel crayons.

There will be work to see and buy from other locally based artists who love to create including:

  • Margaret Sutton - our local Potter who produces both functional and highly decorative pieces that would look fantastic in any home.
  • Sue Zmarzty  - Felt Artist - who is fascinated by big cats and loves to celebrate wild animals using wool and fabric.
  • Cheryl Porter - a  Teaching Assistant in one of our local schools, who loves doing art with the children. Her work has an essence of fantasy and an expressive quality.
  • Ian Whitehead - who besides being our local vicar, is a talented crafts person  who turns and makes wonderfully colourful fountain pens and pencils on his lathe.
  • David Hunns - who creates expressive landscapes in watercolour, acrylics and oils.
  • Helen Tomlinson - who produces a range of crafts that may help solve that Christmas present problem.

All those participating are local and live within a few miles of Crich Stand. The work for sale is unique, as you have the chance to buy original artwork direct from the artist. This means you avoid the gallery commissions!

There will be a creative cafe available which we hope will be a great place to meet for a coffee and chat and possibly doodle!
