April 17 Fringe Deadline Approaches!

Buxton Festival Fringe is gearing up to this month's final deadline for performers with nearly 100 events lined up already!

Says Fringe chair Keith Savage: '‘This Fringe is the last time we’ll have events in the Old Hall’s Pauper’s Pit theatre and it is with mixed feelings – of excitement and regret – that we see the programme for July filling-out.' Now he says there is likely to be further activity in the run up to Sunday April 17, the final deadline for the printed programme.

This year's Fringe runs from Wednesday 6 to Sunday July 24 and is already looking very healthy. The most recent surge of entries has included a big injection of comedy, much of it at Underground Venues, with a large number of female comics including Abi Roberts, Charmian Hughes, multi award-winning Harriet Kemsley and Juliet Meyers who claims: “my flipping dog has ruined my life!” There are also two shows from Edinburgh Fringe award winner and honorary woman Mrs Samantha Mann (aka character comic Charles Adrian). And audiences can look forward to the return of tried and tested Fringe regulars The Dead Secrets, Amadeus Martin and copper turned Radio 4 star, Alfie Moore.

In other categories, latest entries include Little Glimpses with their motherhood-themed theatre show Nipple Tassles and Nursing Bras, and Rusted Dust with their Cold War thriller The Communist Threat. WildeWolfe Productions shine a light on Mrs Oscar Wilde and Drake’s Drummers imagine the kidnapping of Fairy-King Oberon in Shakespeare’s Avengers Assembleth.

Additions to an already massive music section include Project Adorno taking on Dennis Potter, professional harpist Alice Kirwan and singer Annette Reis with blues and more. In the For Families section, look out for PB Theatricals with Gilbert and Sullivan-style operettas in the Pavilion Gardens while Visual Arts sees the addition of the ever popular Derbyshire Open at Buxton Museum.

Details of events are published on the Fringe website www.buxtonfringe.org.uk. The printed programme will be distributed in Buxton and beyond from the beginning of June. To keep in touch with the latest Fringe news, enjoy the Fringe blog and find the Fringe on Facebook and Twitter. Becoming a Fringe Friend is also a great way to stay in touch, with regular Fringe communications plus 10% off ticket prices - full details on the website.

The Fringe will also be holding a programme launch party at The Green Man Gallery, Buxton on Sunday June 5th 6.30-9.30pm. All welcome.

The Fringe is grateful to all its busy venues around the town including the spectacular Dome, home of the Fringe's sponsor, The University of Derby.
