New Commission Helps Bring STEM Subject To Life

A special commission by award-winning composer Josephine Stephenson will premiere at a concert at Derby Theatre on March 12 featuring regional orchestra Sinfonia Viva and city students.

Sinfonia Viva has been working with young people on a creative project entitled ‘AlgoRhythms’  in partnership with Rolls-Royce plc and Derbyshire Music Education Hub designed to bring STEM subjects to life through music (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

Founded in 2004, FORMAT has helped place the UK photography scene on the international cultural map, making it a must-attend event.

'Rouse Ye Women!' by Townsend Productions

Saturday April 6th at the Congregational Church Hall (off Green Lane) Belper at 7.30pm A free event.  Refreshments available.

There is a special performance of the nationwide tour of 'Rouse Ye Women', a new folk ballad about Mary Macarthur and the women chainmakers in early 20th century Britain.
 

Growing international relationships one cherry tree at a time

Schools across the county are being urged by Derbyshire County Council to apply to receive a free Sakura Cherry Tree to celebrate the friendship between Japan and the UK.

Cherry Trees for Schools is coordinated by The Japan Society as part of a large nationwide project which aims to donate and plant more than 4,000 Cherry Trees in parks and public spaces in 2020 to mark the Japan-UK Season of Culture between 2019 and 2020.

Casting call invites Derbyshire people to be part of a new artwork for the Museum of Making

A casting call, inviting local people to be part of a new artwork by international artist Red Saunders, has been issued this week from Derby Museums for the new Museum of Making.

Choosing Derby as the location for his latest Hidden Project, photographer Red Saunders will be casting hundreds of people from across the region to be characters in three giant photographic tableaux, featuring historic scenes of innovation and disruption from Derbyshire’s past.
