Assembly Rooms - have your say

Members of the public and stakeholders are being invited to have their say on the proposed plans to transform the Assembly Rooms into a vibrant new cultural venue in the city centre.

Bondholder Derby City Council is holding a period of stakeholder/ public engagement between Monday 13 May and Friday 24 May on the emerging designs for the Assembly Rooms.

Modern garden villages are not the Eden they pretend to be

A trend in describing modern housing developments as “garden villages” is an abuse of the origin of the term, a leading estate agent has said.

Andrew Jolley, who is supporting Buxton International Festival in its celebration of the work of architects Richard Parker and Raymond Unwin who began their careers in the town, said their ideas had led to the creation of garden cities such as Letchworth and Welwyn as well as Hampstead Garden Village in London.

If The Trees Could Talk is an exciting, new storytelling and performance project with the LGBT+ community in South Derbyshire and beyond that creates a series of original ‘fairy tales’ exploring their relationship with the trees, the wood and nature.

We are open to your ideas and interpretations about the theme. This project is in partnership with Derbyshire LGBT+ and we strongly welcome and encourage applicants from the LGBT+ community and diverse backgrounds to apply.

LOCAL ARTISANS INVITED TO APPLY FOR PLACE IN ‘INSPIRED BY THE PEAK DISTRICT & DERBYSHIRE MARKETPLACE’ AT CHATSWORTH COUNTRY FAIR

Producers based in Derbyshire are invited to showcase, promote and sell their products and services to a potential audience of around 70,000 people at Chatsworth Country Fair this summer – thanks to an exciting opportunity offered by the area’s official tourist board.

After a successful launch at last year’s event, Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire (MPDD) is inviting local producers to apply for a place in the Inspired by the Peak District and Derbyshire Marketplace at one of England’s most spectacular annual outdoor celebrations.

Our projects shine in heritage awards

Three of our projects have won awards in a prestigious awards ceremony, with a fourth being highly commended

Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, Derbyshire Record Office, and two Markham Vale initiatives – the Walking Together Mining Memorial and The Story Mine project – were recognised at Derbyshire Heritage Awards, run by Derbyshire Museums and Heritage Forum.

The awards took place at Barrow Hill Roundhouse in Chesterfield on Friday 3 May 2019. The annual awards celebrate all the wonderful work taking place in museums, historic houses and heritage sites across the county.

Events aimed at ambitious writers and keen readers

Arts Derbyshire has been awarded £14,950 from Arts Council England to run a project for writers and readers with us.

The project, called Writing Ambitions: Commissioning, is a partnership between Festivity, Writing East Midlands, Junction Arts and ourselves.

It will commission five writers to work with a Derbyshire-based arts festival during 2020 to produce and perform pieces of writing in the local community.

All of the festivals selected are members of Festivity, which is the arts festival forum for Derbyshire, and a part of Arts Derbyshire. It includes:
