Derby Book Festival has announced the three shortlisted books for the Derby Children’s Picture Book Award 2021, sponsored by the University of Derby. Now in its third year the Award celebrates picture books that children can relate to and in which the diversity and challenges of modern life are represented.
Wednesday 24 February at 7pm GMT
Join two authors discussing and reading from their debut novels: Anne Goodwin, author of Sugar and Snails (Inspired Quill, Polari Prize short-listed), and Mia Farlane author of Footnotes to Sex (Viking/Penguin). This is a free event!
This Zoom conference aims to support and encourage early-career writers by offering advice and inspiration.
The conference will also feature a number of changemakers who are committed to amplifying Black and Asian voices. Tickets cost from £5 plus booking fee.

The Snoopy Question or One Dog’s Answer to World Peace Live on Zoom at Wolverhampton Literature Festival Saturday, February 13th, 12.30pm GMT (show lasts 50 minutes.

The Writing East Midlands Writer’s Conference is back and fully online. Early bird tickets are available for the conference which runs from the 8th to 11th April.
There will be workshops, panels and talks including keynote speeches from Roger Robinson and Kerry Young. There is also the chance to get your work in front of a leading literary agents, applications for these spots is open to those who book before Sunday 28th February.

Global themed attraction and experience design company, Katapult, have launched a theme park-inspired homeschooling workbook, for kids aged 7+ currently studying under Lockdown.
‘Become A Theme Park Designer’ was developed to help children stay creative while schools are closed due to the pandemic, and also provide teachers, parents and carers with an additional resource to teach English, Maths and Art.
QUAD will be offering workshops online for families and young people during February half-term.
QUAD have recently been awarded a £40,000 grant from the Art Fund to support the delivery of FORMAT International Photography Festival in Derby, and to develop an innovative online venue as a part of the festival.
