Will you help Buxton Station get on track?

Friends of Buxton Station (FOBS) have been working to brighten up the spa town’s rail gateway since 2009.  Sadly, they became inactive for a couple of years and have just got a much-needed boost from a revitalising band of volunteers and new Chairman, Dave Carlisle.

As Dave tells it: “We think it’s time to get volunteers working again at Buxton Station and have got plans to improve the welcome and comfort – we’d love to see more flowers and seats as well as a couple of community arts murals along the platform fencing and a scrap metal sculpture constructed from reclaimed rail items.”

“We’ve got commitment to do the brushwork from Students at Buxton & Leek College and University of Derby, keen to help make this happen.  Our big problem is that we haven’t got any artistic volunteers to guide and supervise them…and no money to pay any professional!”

Although funding bids have been made, no money has been granted to assist the ambitious FOBS projects, so Dave and the other volunteers would dearly love to hear from any High Peak artists who would welcome the opportunity to supervise the design and installation of these permanent public art installations.

Does this sound like you?  Can you help to produce a suitable and memorable mural?  Can you start to help with planning in the early Spring?  If so, please send a message to the Friends of Buxton Station on their Facebook page or send an email directly to Dave Carlisle at davecee@rocketmaill.com
