Kindness can Change the World

Since we were last in touch we premiered The (not so) Quiet Revolution of Kindness at Derby Festé and it was awesome! Crowds of over 1,330 people followed our procession and gathered to watch the show in the heart of the city embracing the themes of the piece and enjoying the performance and the sunflower seeds they were presented with to signify warmth, positivity and kindness.

A massive thank you once again to the schools, community groups, organisations and indeed everyone who helped us create the sunflowers that lined the route, they looked stunning and helped to make the event a phenomenal success! And of course thanks to our audiences who made the performances and the day so very special.

And if anyone is interested in booking the show for their festival or event just get in touch via the details below,
The (not so) Quiet Revolution of Kindness is available for booking between May and July!

“… such a great concept for a performance. I really enjoyed it. No better time than now to stop, lift our heads and connect with others on a human level”

“A gorgeous show that celebrates the beauty of kindness. Lovely images, movement and music.

“Inspiring theatre… colourful, fun, funny and very kind”

Actor Training Workshop Audition Day | Thursday 04 April 2019

We have an opportunity for 4 talented learning disabled performers to join Hubbub’s unique actor training programme which runs every Thursday and Friday during term time at Déda. The training programme is specifically for people with learning disabilities who want to develop their performance skills and grow as actors. We focus on stage presence, physical theatre, movement and devising (making our own work, not from a script) and work with some fabulous internationally touring companies such as Gecko and Told by an Idiot. Trainees have the opportunity to become part of Hubbub Theatre Company’s touring ensemble creating exciting work for indoor and outdoor performance, as well as joining the national network of learning disabled theatre companies and actors.

If you’re interested in finding out more, please contact Jen at jen@hubbubtheatre.org or call us in the office 01332 742 587

Summer Funshine at our Beach Party

We also had our sell-out Hubbub Club at Déda in December! More people than ever joined us for our Winter Wonderland event which was our first afternoon Hubbub Club and we’ll be following suit with our Beach Party this summer, which will be held at Déda on Sunday 14 July from 2.00pm – 4.30pm. You can expect new performances, games in the café, surprise acts and dancing and lots of sunny beachwear.

We’d highly recommend booking early to avoid disappointment, tickets will be on sale at Déda on
Monday 11 March from 10.00am. Click on the film below to see just what we got up to at last year’s Beach Party and get you in the mood for this year’s summer fun.

Last year's Hubbub Club Beach Party at Déda was so much fun!

Splash!

We’ve been working with a host of inspiring organisations and venues across the East Midlands on Splash! The show is being created to help change perceptions and celebrate the extraordinary creative potential of people with learning disabilities.

The participatory arts programme is happening around the waterways of the East Mids and is being led by The Mighty Creatives, Diverse City and integrated circus company Extraordinary Bodies. Our very own Anna Brookes was at Leicester’s Curve last month helping develop some material for the show, which will follow a young girl called Flo on a fearless journey of discovery. You’ll get the chance to join her this summer as she dives into a mysterious underwater world, meeting new characters and challenges along the way. Splash! is a beautiful story with circus, puppetry, BLS and visual vernacular about growing up, family and independence and we’ll be sure to keep you updated with news about the project as it unfolds.

This Is Derby

Jen and the team are working in partnership with Sinfonia Viva and Quad, delivering workshops with a number of SEND schools throughout the city as part of This Is Derby, led by Derby County Community Trust. The project is aimed at young people aged between 5 and 18 years old and uses arts, culture, sport and leisure to develop non-cognitive abilities, collectively named ‘essential life skills’.

We're sharing our theme of Kindness with the SEND schools who are creating their own work for the project.
