Ways to get outside in Derby

Despite the weather turning colder there are many ways to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family and friends getting active outside and enjoying the festive season in Derby.

The ever-popular Cathedral Quarter 3aaa Christmas Ice Rink and Christmas Arts & Craft Fair are returning to the Market Place for another season. Adults and children alike of all abilities can whizz around the rink in 50-minute sessions, running hourly, with skate hire included. Whether out with a group of friends, spending time as a family or looking for an activity for a work Christmas party, a spin on the Cathedral Quarter 3aaa Ice Rink will be a fabulous festive treat. The Cathedral Quarter 3aaa Christmas Ice Rink at the Market Place will take place from Friday 1 December 2017 until Sunday 31 December 2017 and tickets to skate are priced from £6.50 – £8.50 with concessions available.

It might still be early but those looking forward to Christmas can schedule in time to visit Family Festivities at Markeaton Park this December. On Saturday 2, Sunday 3, Saturday 9, Sunday 10, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 December, families can head to Markeaton Park for traditional rides and food, craft fairs, music and workshops and get into the festive mood. During the Family Festivities weekends visitors can take part in the Reindeer Trail at the Craft Village. Markeaton welcomes festive visitors to the park, elves have taken up residency in hidden locations around the park for visitors to find them. They can follow a free Elf trail, available from the Christmas tree in the Craft Village on each event day and complete the free competition by posting their Elf trail entries into the North Pole Post Box, located in the Craft Village. They can also share family pictures of their Elf adventure on the Derby Parks For those who are feeling energetic, there will be a Free Park run and Junior Park run taking place during the Family Festivities weekends and the Derby Hospital Jingle Jog will take place on Sunday 3 December. This is a 5km run around Markeaton Park, dressed as Santa! The fun run is for adults, children and dogs alike and there is also a children’s 1.5km fun run.
