TWO by Jim Cartwright - your chance to sit on the stage

Derby Theatre Friday 2 until Saturday 24 March
Your chance to sit right in the heart of the action….by pulling up a bar stool and sitting on stage for the performance
“Astonishing, funny and sad” The Daily Express (Quote from the original 1989 production)
Now into 2018, Derby Theatre is eagerly looking forward to going into rehearsal for their big production for the spring, Jim Cartwright’s brilliant comic two-hander, TWO…and for the first time ever, the Theatre is offering the chance to see the production by sitting right in the heart of the action…on stage! Audience members can experience Derby Theatre’s production of TWO like no other show at the Theatre before, by booking exclusive on-stage Experience Seats, a unique chance to be immersed in the production and get pretty up close and personal to the actors and the wonderfully authentic stage set, designed in great detail to replicate a traditional pub of the period. These exclusive seats on stage will also include a drink from the on-stage working bar before the show (available on Monday – Thursday performances) and on Friday and Saturday performances, there will be an extra special opportunity to enjoy a pre-theatre meal (plus a drink) in the cosy surroundings of the Theatre’s ‘local’ on the main stage. There are just 24 Experience Seats available per performance, so early booking is strongly recommended. The working bar on stage will also be open during the interval at all performances for audience members to purchase drinks. (see Notes to Editors for key information relating to the Experience Seats). Starring in TWO will be Sean McKenzie and Jo Mousley. Sean, who lives in the Derbyshire village of Heage, has a wealth of theatre and TV credits to his name including, most recently, the National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time in the West End; the UK, Ireland and South Africa tour of the multi award-winning War Horse; The Magistrate starring John Lithgow for the National Theatre; and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and the world premiere of Goth Weekend for the Stephen Joseph

1 pub. 14 different characters. 2 actors.
TWO is hilarious, yet heart-breaking, and presents a slice of working-class life in a Northern local pub in the 1980s. With a constantly quarrelling landlord and landlady, and the dozen regulars pulling up a stool, all life is present in this pub. It is the heart of communities. It is where people laugh, share stories, celebrate and mourn. It is a place of failed aspirations and unfulfilled lives. Through this range of colourful characters, the rich tapestry of their interconnecting lives is revealed. With the fragile relationship of our less than cordial hosts at breaking point, a rollercoaster of emotions unfold.
Multi-award winning playwright Jim Cartwright has written extensively for stage, television and radio, and amongst many fantastic press quotes describing TWO, The Times described it as “The writing is brilliantly, surrealistically and comically poetic”.
