Live music is just the ticket if you want to feel good, an audience survey found after a concert during last summer’s Buxton International Festival (BIF).

Orchestras Live, a charity dedicated to bringing orchestral music to as wide and diverse an audience as possible, conducted the survey after one of their productions by The English Concert.

It revealed that 98% of the audience felt the live performance of Vivaldi had contributed positively to their sense of well-being.

Other findings from the survey, which was completed by a quarter of the 200-strong audience, found that 100% of the respondents rated the quality of the performance and the whole experience of attending the Festival’s concert as good or very good.

The survey also found the listeners were mostly motivated to go for entertainment or to be inspired, whilst some wanted to escape everyday life or try something new and out of the ordinary.

“We are delighted that the Orchestras Live survey has given the Festival such positive feedback and that people left the concert feeling a greater sense of well-being,” said BIF CEO Michael Williams.

“It has been a difficult couple of years and there is no doubt that our Festival visitors found the energy and power of a live orchestral performance truly inspiring.”

The English Concert will return to BIF in 2022 as part of a bigger, bolder, and braver line-up than ever before between 7 and 24 July. Five operas, an oratorio, a musical, a brand-new jazz programme, a books programme, and a world-class classical music series will provide a knock-out festival in the heart of Buxton, the Peak District’s most famous town.
