Surtal Arts Presents: Derby Mela In Association with Akaal Channel

Saturday 22nd July 2017 – 12.00-18.00

Surtal Arts is delighted to bring you the ‘Derby Mela’, in conjunction with Derby City Council’s Diversity Event ‘In-Sync’.

Join us for a fun packed festival with locations all over the city celebrating arts from Southern Asia and debuting our exciting work from the Surtal Arts Connect project.

From our main stage located in the centre of Derby (Outside Tourist Information Centre, Market Place) we are proud to present live performances from the World Music Collective: Suns of Arqa, internationally renowned: DJ Frenzy, Panjabi folk/hip-hop producer: Tru-Skool, fantastic Folk Singer: Gurj Sidhu, Bhangra Singer and record producer: Sukhshinder Shinda and much, much more.

Elsewhere in the city you can join us at the Derby Quad for a mentoring session with Tru-Skool or Gurj Sidhu or a digital workshop. In the Market Place you can enjoy a plethora of food stands where you can try different meals from all over the world.  Meanwhile over at the Guildhall Theatre you can get involved with our workshops in Bollywood Dance, Pan-pipes and drumming, circus skills and yoga or bring the whole family for Face Painting and Henna Tattoos.

As you can see there is something for the whole family so come on down and spend the day with us!
