Songs Of The Isles Concert In Chesterfield

Songs Of The Isles Concert In Chesterfield

Chesterfield Co-operative Choral Society are performing a brand-new arrangement of folksongs to celebrate Her Majesty’s Jubilee Year at a concert on Saturday 11th June 2022 at 7.30pm at St Thomas’ Church (Brampton – Chesterfield – S40 3AW).

The Songs of the Isles has been specially composed for the choir by their musical director Adam Green. The arrangement features songs from the British Isles that celebrate the best of the nation with a plethora of great melodies. The concert will also include John Rutter’s Sprig of Thyme and music by Vaughan Williams.

Adam said, “I wanted to arrange something for the choir that would go alongside Rutter’s settings in the Sprig of Thyme, which is a great nostalgic look at a bygone time: it’s full of cautionary tales that evoke summer evenings and the British countryside and there are some really beautiful melodies. My setting of songs features well-known (and some less well-known) tunes from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland arranged to be uplifting, soothing and toe-tapping in equal measure”.

The choir will be accompanied by a professional chamber orchestra in what promises to be a night not to be missed!

Tickets priced at £14 (£12 concessions, £8 under 10s) are available from chesterfieldchoir.com or on the door
