Portrait of Middleton - Opportunities for photographers, writers, and artisan/makers
Middleton by Youlgrave 1900s - the village is looking for photographers, a writer and a maker to help celebrate the village's bicentenary.
In the 1820’s Thomas Bateman, rebuilt most of the small Derbyshire Village of Middleton by Youlgrave. An extensive rebuild, it included the new Middleton Hall and much of the village square, which still structures the village and continues to shape the lives of residents today.
A Portrait of Middleton celebrates Thomas Bateman’s achievement by recording today’s village and its residents by a set of photographs documenting each household and their home, together with a short history taken from the memory of their time in Middleton. The project is inspired by the early 20thC images of the Middleton and its residents which hang in our village hall.
We are current seeking photographers to photograph each household in the village, a writer or storyteller to support residents tell their stories, and an artisan/maker to build a box that will archive the final prints for another two hundred years.

- Timescale: Photography and writing (April-July 2022) Box commission (September 2022)
- Fees: Photography £50 per household / Writer 10 hr @ £50 pHour / Storage box up to £1000.
