Patriotic Entertainment in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter

Derby Cathedral Quarter’s programme of Saturday entertainment continues on Saturday April 18 with a day of live entertainment on a St George’s Day theme and a showcase of handcrafted delights.

CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious will change venue for this month only – with the stage located in the Cornmarket between 11am and 3pm.

Meanwhile, CQ Saturdays Handcrafted at the Cathedral Quarter will be held under the Guildhall Arches between 10am and 4pm.

CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious is fast becoming Derby's premier outdoor variety show and returns for a 'Best of British' theme.  The day will be compered by Dan Webber who will be joined on stage by a host of local and regional performers.

These include Derby contemporary folk band The Feathers; sassy tap dancer Rebecca Rhythm; young performers from The Adele Francesca Performance Academy; the soulful sweet sound of soprano Veronica Jones and aerial acrobatics artist Pixie Trix

CQ Saturdays Handcrafted at the Cathedral Quarter brings together the best of local and handmade products including artwork, food, carpentry, textile and jewellery created by artisans from across the Midlands.

Stallholders confirmed so far include Derby-based TangleCrafts’ unique range of notebooks, badges, key rings and gifts collaged with upcycled vintage postage stamps and The Little Cream Cakery with home-made goods and cake mixes for customers to bake at home.

Tallboy's Woodworking will be selling handcrafted solid oak items for the home and garden, as well as gifts and games, alongside Pocketfall Creations’ textile goods; Fat Dragon Felts characters and gifts; Vintage Skull upcycled jewellery and gifts and handmade giftware and jewellery from Delight in the Little Things.

Both events will continue throughout the spring and summer on the third Saturday of the month and are produced by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with Derby arts promoters Furthest from the Sea.

Dan Webber from Furthest From the Sea explained: “CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious will be in a new home for this month’s event only and will be a great addition to the St George’s Day celebrations in the Cathedral Quarter.

“The entertainment will have a ‘Best of British’ music hall flavour reflecting our time-old love for variety on the stage for all the family.”

Ellie Depp from the organisation continued: “The ‘Handcrafted at the Cathedral Quarter’ continues to attract artisans from across the Midlands who recognise that the Cathedral Quarter is the perfect venue with customers who appreciate quirky and individual items.”

Paul Hurst, vice chair of the Cathedral Quarter Management Group, concluded: “There was a fantastic response from the public to the new CQ Saturdays programme which re-launched last month and April’s line up looks just as exciting.

“CQ Saturdays is a great way of creating a lively, family-friendly atmosphere in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter and visitors then take the opportunity to explore more of what the area has to offer including our independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.”
