Online event that platforms rurally-based disabled creatives both in Derbyshire and further afield

Further Afield is a series of FREE online events produced in collaboration with LEVEL Artistic Associate Bella Milroy, designed to find, support and platform rurally-based disabled creatives both in Derbyshire and further afield.

Presented as a conversation between Bella and a guest speaker, Further Afield explores the impact of disability on a rurally based, contemporary creative practice and how creative networks can be encouraged to make the art scene more accessible.

Bella says “A core aspect of my personal practice strives towards better visibility and the broader cataloguing of disabled artists across contemporary art. Having the chance to apply that to my work at LEVEL was a really exciting opportunity, one that I immediately thought of for creating connections, and those people now make up this programme of events.”

If you have an interest in disability, arts and culture, and want to understand more about rural art scenes in general, then this programme is very much for you.

Further Afield is a FREE event and takes place on Zoom. The next event is on Thursday 30 March at 5.30pm when Bella will be talking to poet and non-fiction writer Polly Atkin about how her practice has been informed as a writer based in Grasmere, Cumbria. Polly has written extensively about the natural environment of her surroundings in the Lake District, and how her experience of illness is interwoven throughout this space.
