New Mills Festival Spring Update

IT MIGHT BE COLD OUTSIDE....but here at New Mills Festival, we're looking forward to Spring, Summer and, most importantly, Autumn with plans for the Festival Fringe well underway.

Also in this update, details of an exciting gig taking place on 7 April 2018, Mr Wilson's Second Liners, and the return of the One World Festival in July. There's a lot to look forward to in 2018.

MR WILSON’S SECOND LINERS TO PLAY IN NEW MILLS ON SATURDAY 7 APRIL 2018

Music in Hospitals & Care (MiHC), New Mills Festival and The Studios are very pleased to present Mr Wilson’s Second Liners live at The Butterfly House at The Torrs, New Mills for one crazy, fun packed night only – Saturday 7th April 2018.

The gig will be raising funds for MiHC, a charity that brings interactive live music sessions to people who are receiving care or treatment, for an illness or disability, in healthcare settings across the UK. MiHC organises around 4,500 music sessions a year for people of all ages. Mr Wilson’s will be admirably supported by Lazlo Baby - bringing you a high-octane mixture of Balkan folksy ska, klezmer, gypsy and trad Irish music; plus the sultry sounds of The Butterfly’s own Jilah Bakhshayesh.

“...nattily dressed...dragged through a school disco with a mega phone...Bastille take note: this is how you cover a pop dance classic” Festival No 6.

“It was like somebody had flicked a switch; almost as if the festival was in black and white before they proclaimed the audience’s attention” Manchester Jazz Festival

“...Joyful and compulsive with big band sparkle” Manchester Confidential

With a packed annual touring schedule, Mr. Wilson’s plays to, on average, 20,000 spectators a year and has appeared at Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Bestival, Kendal Calling, Festival No. 6, London Jazz Festival, Bournemouth Arts By The Sea Festival, Chaoyang Spring Carnival, Beijing, Fêtes de la Tour Blanche, Issoudun, France plus many more. And we’re very excited that they have now made it to New Mills for our MiHC fundraiser.

Tickets are selling fast and are priced at £10 early bird; £7 concessions or £13 on the door. Book via  www.newmillsfestival.co.uk, at Priscilla’s Cards (60-62 Market St, New Mills, SK22 4AA) or by phone 0775 384 2861.

NEW MILLS FESTIVAL FRINGE UPDATE

Plans for this year's Fringe event are well underway with an exciting programme, including Poetry and Jumble Trails, a Performance Trail (in conjunction with High Peak Community Arts) and a Spoken Word Trail.

However, more volunteers are needed, not just to ensure the events can run this year, but to plan the comeback of the full Festival in 2019.  If you think you can help, in any way, please complete the Volunteer Form or contact volunteers@newmillsfestival.co.uk for more information.

Volunteering news is available on New Mills Festival Volunteers Facebook Group.

In addition, although much of the cost of the festival is met through fundraising events, it is extremely challenging to raise the money required to put on the Festival. As such, the Committee would love to hear from any companies or organisations who would consider sponsoring or donating to the Festival, or assisting in any other way.
