New Mills Festival 2021

New Mills Festival 2021 brings you ...

A newsletter!

The first of a 2021 series.

There is so much going on from 10th to 26th September that we've had to split the information across a few newsletters just so we can cover every type of entertainment that's coming to town this year. This newsletter is devoted to the big events, but we'll be covering (or trying to) everything as we go so you don't miss out on a thing!

New Mills Festival Weekender

Last things first, the New Mills Festival Weekender is making sweet music! The final weekend of the Festival will bring you three days of Folk music at the iconic Torr Vale Mills. A fantastic backdrop and a really special place to the people of New Mills.

It's not only the venue that's exciting, the three different nights of music are bringing you an eclectic mix of artists, some local, some not so local. Brush off those dancing shoes, you're going to need them.

  • Friday 24th September Shovel Dance Collective with bonus appearance by Chapel Morris Dancers - a mad and intriguing mix!
  • Saturday 25th September The Roving Crows supported by Tony Maloney and The Lonely Ponies - celtic inspirations, intelligent lyrics, fantastic.
  • Sunday 26th September Folk Night V Galivantes headline (bouncy-punky-reggae-Balkan-disco-skank) with supporting acts Lazlo Baby, local favorites The Gally Canters and Gypsy Jazz. It's going to be lively for sure!

ESTATE

Opening hours: Friday evenings, Saturday daytime and Sunday daytime through the three weekends of the New Mills Festival.

Tickets free but bookable - https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/newmillsfestival/estate-municipal-disaster-zone-tour/e-vpozbj

Remember the year the "City in a Shipping Container" came to town? Well, Jimmy Cauty, the man behind that has a new show in town. Coming to New Mills as part of a Tour of the UK is his latest work, "ESTATE". It's amazing! Again in a shipping container, this is a creation of many scenes and rooms, all of which have inexplicably been damaged and destroyed. It's for you to figure out just what you think happened here. Again the incredible detail, but with sounds and lights and smoke and a chinook, and this time you can step inside. This is ticketed to keep numbers at a level where you'll be able to take your time and see without crowds, but tickets are free. You won't want to miss out. Oh, it's parked up at the New Mills football club so keep an eye out for Millers Bar opening and the street food options.

The Art Trail

Local businesses love the opportunity to feature an artist and proudly display their work in their window. More than ever before! Free to stroll through town between10 to 26 September, and take your time to check out over 70 businesses showing a huge range of artwork. Open all hours but as some businesses do have shutters, probably best viewed during the daytime. Maybe grab a takeaway coffee while you wander the streets of New Mills.

New for 2021!

New Mills Festival is glad to be hosting some newcomers!

Antartica
New Mills welcomes "Antartica"; adventures with Chris Dobrowolski who is appearing in one of the opening events of the New Mills Festival at the Spring Bank Arts Centre on 10 September. Doors open 7:00pm

Tickets are £6.00, the bar's open and there's rumours of a free glass of wine afterwards.

For three and a half months Chris lived and worked alongside the folks at the British Antarctic Survey. This is a recently reworked, power-point presentation-come-adventure story about overcoming hardships and celebrating difference via tales of carnivorous ducks, Ladybird books and a sledge built out of gold picture frames
