Music and Dance in Derby Cathedral Quarter

Visitors to Derby Cathedral Quarter will be treated to a free entertainment line-up of music and dance at the Waterfall stage in the Market Place as CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious takes place this Saturday (May 20) between 11am and 3pm.

CQ Saturdays’ summer programme is now in full swing with something happening on most Saturdays in the coming months. It is organised by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with a range of local arts organisations to attract more people into the area.

The programme won praise from the judges who crowned the Cathedral Quarter the best city centre location in the recent Great British High Street Awards.

The CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious line-up, programmed by FFTS Events, will see the return of several event favourites as well as some new acts.

Derby-based singer/songwriter Chris Fahy is a Knickerbocker Glorious favourite.  He has supported Dave McPherson (InMe), Billy Lunn (The Subways) and Tony Wright (Terrorvision) and appeared at Derby Festé and the YNOT Festival.

Chris Baldwin will take the stage as a solo singer.  He is also the lead singer of Burton-on-Trent based ‘Star from Ivy’.

The line-up also includes Sweet Liquorice who combine intricate guitar with powerhouse vocals.  Formed in 2015, they have appeared at Belper Goes Green and The Flowerpot in Derby and were part of the line up at last month’s Whitby Goth Festival .

Music by JiJi is a folk and acoustic rock singer songwriter, soon to release his new EP ‘Morning’.

Meanwhile 12-year-old guitarist, vocalist and self-acclaimed rock star River Hopkins will make his CQ Saturdays debut.

Dance performances come courtesy of talented students at two Derby dance schools - the Adele Francesca Performance Academy and Danae’s Dance Academy.

Martin Langsdale is chair of the Cathedral Quarter board and management group, which drives forward activities under the area’s BID status.

He said: “Knickerbocker Glorious was the first part of the CQ Saturdays programme to be launched and it has grown in stature over the years – attracting a wide range of performers who are keen to be part of the monthly entertainment line-up.

“Our partners FFTS Events always programme a fantastic high quality entertainment programme for Knickerbocker Glorious and this Saturday will be no exception.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to the Waterfall stage and I then hope that people take the opportunity to explore the rest of the Cathedral Quarter to enjoy the unique and diverse retail, leisure and cultural offer in our wonderful part of the city centre.”
