This Month We Recommend You Read...

We're focusing this month on some of the excellent children's books we have available from our eBook and eAudiobook collections, which are great choices to share with your family.

On Borrowbox we've chosen The Last Chance Hotel by Nicki Thornton. In the spirit of so many classic 'locked-room' murder mysteries, we join oppressed kitchen-boy Seth as he tries to solve the murder of a magician, all while falling under suspicion as the prime suspect, and dealing with magic to boot...

Our second pick is the Carnegie Medal-shortlisted After the Fire by Will Hill, which is the astonishing story of the aftermath of a Waco-like siege, and how Moonbeam comes to terms with what happened to her and her fellow residents under the oppression of the fanatical Father John.

Over on RBdigital, we have the incredibly-powerful YA sensation, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. In a story inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, 16 year-old Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Her struggle for justice as the key witness makes this story such a powerful one, and one that you aren't likely to forget anytime soon.

Need a further suggestion? We're always delighted to suggest a story! Contact us on Facebook, Twitter, or ask.library@derbyshire.gov.uk and we'll do our best to find you something fantastic!
