Make this October half term one to remember

In Derby has a fabulous holiday programme up its sleeve to keep everyone occupied and happy throughout October half term. With Halloween-themed activities, offers on racket sports and a puppet-making workshop - this October has plenty for everyone!

The Babbling Vagabonds will be getting you into the swing of things this half term with their Christmas Toy Shop Workshops at Markeaton Park’s Craft Village between Monday 28 October and Saturday 2 November. These make, play and take, puppet making, story creating workshops are one-hour interactive sessions led by team behind the wonderful Christmas shows at the Guildhall Theatre.

Of course, October wouldn’t be complete without Halloween and that’s exactly why Queen’s Leisure Centre’s teaching pool is holding a Little Monsters’ Halloween Splash for under 8s on Wednesday 30 October, with fun activities and spooky inflatables. Continuing the theme, Springwood Leisure Centre is holding a Halloween disco on Thursday 31 October where fancy dress is optional but fun is a definite.

Springwood Leisure Centre have considered kids of all ages with the bouncy castle and soft play sessions for the really little ones (0-6yrs); whilst the bigger kids (0-12yrs) can show off their ninja skills and have a go at completing the fun and challenging obstacle course at the Ninja Warrior Circuits. Progressive sports will be back at Springwood between Monday 28 October and Friday 1 November with the ‘spook-tacular’ holiday course for 1-5 year olds.

The whole family (5yrs+) can take on a challenge with Atlantis Splash Run at Queen’s Leisure Centre during October half term. The amazing inflatable which comes complete with giant obstacles to climb and scramble over and slides to zoom down! There’s also a new challenge which awaits the centre’s swimmers who wish test their skills whilst running the gauntlet on the float run splash.

Both Derby Arena and Queen’s Leisure Centre have offers throughout the half term too. Families who attend the family splash sessions during the half term can do so for just £9.50 (2 adults and 2 children, 5yrs+), offering a saving of up to £6. Derby Arena is offering table tennis, badminton and pickleball enthusiasts the chance to hire a court for half price Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm (subject to availability).

Derby County Community Trust (DCCT) are holding a multi-sport activity camp at Derby Arena between Tuesday 29 and Thursday 31 October, which gives 4-6 years olds the chance to try out loads of different sports in a safe environment.

For those who want to make the most of the outdoors before winter arrives, Markeaton Park is the place to be, with activities such as pitch and putt, footgolf, canoes and the Skyline High Ropes, as well as the brand new mini and disc golf courses.
