Leader Succession at Sinfonia Viva

Celebrated violinist Benedict Holland has retired after 17 years as Leader of Grammy-nominated Sinfonia Viva - the East Midlands’ professional orchestra.

Mr Holland now plans to pursue other professional opportunities and has been succeeded in the role by award-winning violinist Sophie Rosa.

He said: “I am sad to be leaving behind a wonderful team of musicians and colleagues at Sinfonia Viva but looking forward to having the time to develop other aspects of my performing and teaching career.

“Sinfonia Viva is a wonderfully versatile Orchestra with a fantastic reputation for high quality concert performing alongside an inspiring education and community outreach programme and I know that this will continue and develop further over the coming years.

“I am delighted that Sophie will take on the role as Leader and wish her and the whole Orchestra every success in the future.”

Sinfonia Viva Chief Executive Peter Helps concluded: “We are very grateful for Benedict’s passion, commitment and skilful leadership over the past 17 years.

“Personally I will miss his support and creative contribution which has been invaluable.

“However I hope that we will be able to entice him back for guests visits in the future.

“Sophie’s audition was warmly received by Principal Conductor Frank Zielhorst, the players and management team alike and we all look forward to working with her to take the Orchestra to the next level.”
