Land based and Leisure Higher Education Open Day

Derby College is holding an open day for students of all ages who are interested in boosting their job prospects in land-based and leisure careers.

 

The event at Broomfield Hall in Morley is on Wednesday October 17.  Visitors need to arrive by 9am and the open day is due to finish by 5pm.

 

Throughout the day, information will be available on the full and part time higher education study programmes available in Animal Management, Equine, Horticulture, Security and Offender Management and Sports Coaching.

 

Prospective students can talk to lecturers and current students on each of the courses, tour the facilities including the residential accommodation, gain help with applications and information about student finance.

 

There will also be initial details available about degree courses planned for the future including new zoo and wildlife programmes.

 

The higher education programmes are run in partnership with The University of Derby and the open day will include a shuttle bus to the Kedleston Road campus which students have access to as well as being based in the main facilities at Broomfield Hall.

  

Head of Broomfield Hall Eileen Swan said: “We attract a wide range of students onto the Land-based and Leisure HE courses including those who have just completed a level three qualification with us or at other schools and college.

 

“We also have a large number of mature students who are returning to education or who are working full time and looking to increase their career prospects.

 

“There are so many reasons to study for HE closer to home – not least that the fees which are significantly lower than those charged by most universities.

 

“We also have far smaller undergraduate class sizes and therefore students benefit from much more individual support and guidance.

 

“This open day is therefore the perfect opportunity to get a feel for the surroundings, meet the staff and current students and to discuss options available including help with student finance if required.”
