Join us to Explore the Space in Between...

Hubbub is one of eleven companies creating art, with or for people with disabilities, in receipt of Arts Council England’s Elevate funding. The award has supported us to establish an actor training model for performers with learning disabilities which develops an innovative and collaborative working approach to enable all kinds of professional theatre makers to work together with equality. The first year of the training programme is coming to an end and we’re inviting you to join us for a day of devised integrated physical theatre, exploring the ‘Space in Between’ learning disabled and non-disabled performance and what we’ve discovered to date. Project partners, GeckoTold By An Idiot and Can't Sit Still will also attend and input on the day.

The day is designed for theatre makers, producers, artists, writers and creatives and we aim to give insight into the process and experience of working in a devised physical theatre space with actors with and without learning disabilities. It will be a day of doing, seeing, talking and reflecting on the unique creative potential inspired by a collaborative approach.

Hubbub specialise in training and working with learning disabled actors to create powerful and playful theatre through integrated devising.

The event offers opportunities to learn more about the company, our technique and philosophy, as well as practical exploration through our warm up and workshops led by Gecko, Told by an Idiot and Cat Boot of Can't Sit Still and Circomedia. There will also be a scratch performance of our work in progress and the chance to take part in meaningful conversations about the reasons we make work and who we make it for.

Having the opportunity to understand the different needs of all kinds of performers and consider new communication methods will help you to get the very best out of the artists you work with, whatever their skills and abilities.

Even if your focus isn’t working with learning disabled performers, the day will offer exciting new approaches to devising creative work and a vibrant arena in which to discuss, share and grow
