Have your say about our next research topic: the social role of the artist; plus news about the next round of Collaborate funding.

The Centre for Cultural Value conducts regular research reviews – a rapid assessment of published literature to present a ‘snapshot’ of the research across a topic. We share these summary findings in an accessible digest, so it can usefully shape future research, practice and policy. Our next review will focus on the social role of the artist.

On 14 September join us for an online workshop to set our agenda and help shape future cultural policy that best supports artists.

This interactive workshop will refine the scope of the research review so it’s as useful and relevant as possible to artists, cultural practitioners, voluntary and community groups, arts organisations, researchers and those who fund cultural activity and develop cultural policy.

The research review will examine the evidence base surrounding the social role of the artist. It will explore artists working within communities, artists’ role in relation to place, socially engaged practice and artists’ livelihoods. The themes within this will be shaped and refined with your input.

The online workshop takes place on Wednesday 14 September, 2 - 4pm. Please book your place in advance.

Coming soon: Collaborate round two

The Collaborate fund supports innovative new research partnerships between cultural sector practitioners and academics and the second round of funding is due to open for expressions of interest from cultural organisations and practitioners in the Autumn. We will be releasing further information about round two of funding, how to apply and dates for online Q&A sessions on 12 September.

Collaborate projects are driven by the real-world questions of the cultural sector. They provide opportunities to test new methodologies, explore and more deeply understand cultural practice and to communicate cultural value more effectively. Read about projects from round one.

Listen to Reflecting value

There are two series of our podcast Reflecting value available on our website and across other podcast platforms.

The final episode in series two was created in partnership with National Theatre of Scotland and brings together six participants who took part in creative work during the pandemic. The group explores their experiences of taking part in creative activity and the positive impacts it had on them while in lockdown.
