Glossop Creates Presents 'A Local Winter Story Trail'

Glossop Creates Presents 'A Local Winter Story Trail'

A Local Winter Story Trail, celebrating the magical art of story telling, and in dedication to the creative legacy of Dame Hilary Mantel,  officially launches Saturday the 26th of November!

The trail launch coincides with Glossop's Christmas Lights Switch On. It will run throughout the festive season until 6th January 2023.

A Local Winter Story Trail showcases the talents of local writers, authors, performers and poets and utilising the high street windows of shops and venues in the town centre, the sparkling story-led trail will take participants on a literary journey around Glossop. Glossop is the book, so let your imagination run wild over the town!

A Local Winter Story Trail maps can be collected from literary venues across Glossop including: KIN.DER, the independent bookshops in Glossop and Glossop Library.

A digital map is also available to download here.

Similarly to last year, a secret, specially commissioned 24 word poem, has been hidden across the town. Uncover the poem by finding all the windows and filling in a word from each along the top of your map!

Each tale is also available as an online audio book here. Immersive yourself in the trail and listen along as you discover a new story at each venue.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Awaken your imagination with the magical art of storytelling this Winter and join this very special tour around A Local Winter Story Trail with some brilliant surprises and special guests!

The walk is in partnership with Glossop Improv, whose actors are planning some interventions along the route, with some of the authors who wrote the tales joining us for special readings, some audio recordings from special guests and a celebration of a fantastic project!

There will be 2 time slots for the event due to demand, at 10 am and 1pm respectively, both for 90 minutes. Kids under 16 come free ,so no need to book them a ticket, just book one if you're an adult attending.

Attendees will meet at Glossop Library and the tour will take roughly 90 minutes. The trail is along the high street, but comfortable footwear and rain jackets are recommended!

Tickets for the tour are £5 each, kids are welcome for free!
Please book your tickets here, and make sure to book early to avoid disappointment.

Launching Issue 2 of KIN.DER Zine

Issue 2 of KIN.DER zine is out today (26th November)!

As with previous issues of the zine, KIN.DER are publishing topics and issues they feel are interesting and important without focussing too hard in any particular direction. This approach embraces freedom, diversity and allows us to head in whichever way we choose. The idea being that when you pick the zine up, you are never quite sure what you will find inside.

You can pick up a free copy from KIN.DER from 10am today and they'll be scattering some copies across fine Glossop establishments in the coming weeks.

A big thanks to the contributors of this edition; Michelle Collier, Michael Howard, Andrea Joseph, Rosie Kent, Jess Napthine-Hodgkinson, Nelson, Clare Savory and Rob Wilson.

This edition has been supported by Glossop Creates and Pioneering People.

To celebrate the new zine, A Local Winter Story Trail launch and the Christmas lights switch on, KIN.DER will be staying open tonight until 7pm to supply the general public with reading material and trail maps!
