Ghosts of the Landscape

Ghosts of the Landscape is a new nature writing competition for young and adults writers, run by ourselves in partnership with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.

The prize is designed to raise awareness of the plight of Derbyshire’s moorlands, and the practices that have stripped the land of its wild inhabitants, including its crucial ability to capture carbon.

There are three age categories to the competition, Under 13s, 14-17 years and Over 18s, and we would love to see entries of poetry (up to 40 lines) and short stories or creative non-fiction (of up to 1,000 words).

The winners will be published in a digital anthology on the Writing East Midlands and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust websites, and adults will receive a free creative writing course or a guided nature walk in the Peak District with Peak Walking Adventures. They will also receive a Derbyshire Wildlife Trust Owl Adoption Pack. Young writers will receive a goody bag and vouchers.

Deadline for submissions, 8th September at midnight, free to enter
