Game On For Derby Business Community

Game On For Derby Business Community

Local companies and organisations are being invited to recapture their childhoods and compete in a series of fun sporting challenges based on the traditional school sports day.

The first-ever Derby Business Games event will be held at the University of Derby Sports Centre in Kedleston Road on Thursday July 6 between 4pm and 6pm.

Teams of eight will compete in the rounders, dodgeball and touch rugby tournaments.  Individuals and pairs will go head to head in mini events from wheelbarrow races to the firm favourite – egg and spoon. The afternoon will then finish with relays and a tug of war finale before crowning the team with the points accrued.

It is the brainchild of Derby-based HUUB Events, the company behind a number of high-profile events including the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon, Cycle Derby Sportives and the new Staunton Harold Triathlon.

Derby Business Games has been sponsored by Timms solicitors in Queen Street and the firm is challenging fellow Derby businesses to join them for the event.

Timms’ Managing Partner Fiona Moffat said: “Many of our team have entered major Derby sporting events including those organised by HUUB Events and we are delighted to support the first ever Derby Business Games.

“It is a great opportunity to bring colleagues together for an afternoon of competitive fun and to clarify once and for all just who is the sportiest business in the city.”

HUUB Events Race Director Claire Duffin explained: “A lot of Derby businesses support and enter teams in our other major events in the city and we were keen to organise an event specifically for local companies and organisations to compete against each other.

“The look and feel of this event will be like the old-school sports day with a series of sporting challenges that will have something for everyone.

“We want this to be a fun and relaxed family day with plenty of friendly competitive spirit – cheered on by family, friends and colleagues.”

Ollie Shearer, Head of Sports Development at the University of Derby, concluded: “We’re looking forward to hosting the first-ever Derby Business Games at the University. It provides a huge opportunity to bring together businesses from across the region and show how serious Derby is about sport.”

The cost of the event is £250 per team with free entry for family, friends and colleagues.
