Derwent Valley Mills is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its inscription on UNESCO’s World Heritage List

Derwent Valley Mills, the East Midland’s only World Heritage Site is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its inscription on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Since inscription, we have been the lead partner in managing and protecting the site, and hosting the officers who carry out that work.

You can join in the celebrations at Cromford Mills and Canal Wharf on Saturday 16 July, from 10am to 4pm.

You will be able to see activities and achievements from across the 15 mile long site, which stretches from Matlock Bath in the north to Derby in the south, along the River Derwent. There'll be family craft sessions, exhibitions, and displays of rare artefacts, giving you the chance to find out more about what makes the valley so special, and what is being done to present its historic stories.

There will also be two performances of ‘Matlock Bath Voices’, telling stories from that unique community, at the Gothic Warehouse, by the Cromford Canal. These are free to attend but donations are welcome and booking is advised – call 07784 875333.
