Derbyshire schools spread Christmas cheer at annual choir competition

Children of Derbyshire are spreading festive cheer at intu Derby’s annual Christmas choir competition.

The popular competition sees talented pupils from primary schools across the region go head to head as they sing their hearts out to much-loved Christmas classics.

Participating schools will compete in three rounds of heats taking place on Monday 26, Tuesday 27, and Wednesday 28 December from 11am to 2pm, before concluding at a grand finale on Thursday 6 December at 11am.

Shoppers are invited to cheer on the participating schools throughout all stages of the competition, which will see the winning choir receive £500 for their school, and runner up schools receive £100 each.

Performances will take place on Level 2 of the centre outside Wagamama.

Carly Salisbury, marketing manager at intu Derby, said: “We’re delighted to host our annual Christmas choir competition. It’s a fantastic way to showcase the talents of children throughout Derbyshire, and proves to be a popular community event each year. Our shoppers always turn out to show their support for local pupils, whose performances bring a bit of festive magic to the centre while visitors go about their Christmas shopping.

“We wish all contestants the best of luck, and are very much looking forward to the grand finale to see who will be crowned winner,” she added.
