The Derby Conference Centre go back to their roots by hosting Women in Rail event

The Derby Conference Centre were delighted to have hosted Women in Rail East Midlands for a second time this year for their ‘First Step to the Next Step’ event on Thursday 12th October. The Derby Conference Centre was the first purpose-built training college for railway staff, which couldn’t be more fitting to host this event, along with their launch which took place at the end of June.

Women in Rail was a charity founded in 2012, which was created to improve diversity in the UK rail industry through providing networking opportunities and support for all women within the sector, encourage undertakings and stakeholders to adopt diversity as a business strategy and devising initiatives aimed at positioning rail as an attractive career choice for young people.

The evening gave attendees the opportunity to learn from experts on a diverse range of topics from speaking confidently to feeling healthier. Women in Rail wanted to give everyone something a bit different to the standard rail event – they wanted the event to be an opportunity for individuals across the industry to focus on their personal journey and tackle things that may be holding them back. The event was a great opportunity to meet new people and share each other’s experiences.

Sarah Reid, Head of Material Solutions, CRO & Services Strategy (UK), of Bombardier Transportation said, “We were delighted to choose the Derby Conference Centre for our event. We couldn’t think of anywhere more apt, given its historical links to the rail industry, being originally a rail training college. It is also a very versatile venue with great customer service.”

Rebecca Adams, Sales and Marketing Executive at The Derby Conference Centre commented, “Being a member of the Women in Rail committee, I am passionate about encouraging other businesses to adopt diversity as a business strategy, and it was an honour for us at The Derby Conference Centre to have hosted this event”.

RTC Group was the main sponsor on the evening which ATA recruitment, a great advocate of Women in Rail, and The Derby Conference Centre are a part of. The evening ended with a truly inspiring presentation from Squash Falconer, who documented her expedition of Everest and how she overcame the odds to realise her dreams. Squash’s experiences left the room motivated and it was the perfect way to end a great evening.

Don’t miss Women in Rails quiz night and networking event on Thursday 30th November which promises to be an entertaining evening and a great opportunity to meet new people.
