Derby College Students Share ‘Stay Strong’ Message

Students at Derby College’s Ilkeston campus have teamed up with Fixers, a national organisation working with young people to share their past experiences to improve their future lives.

The students, who have learning difficulties and are on the Pathway to Working Life programme at the College, devised a campaign called ‘Stay Strong’.  They produced wristbands and created a leaflet with helpline contacts on a range of issues from bullying to bereavement.

LLDD Lecturer Karen Straw explained: “This project has been very empowering for the students – helping them address issues that they have faced in their own lives and research and share information about the support available to young people. “The final event of the project came hot on the heels of the College gaining ‘Outstanding’ status for work with students with high needs and was a fitting celebration of the extra curricula work that we do here.”
