Derby College Creative Arts Students Exhibit Work

Creative Arts students at Derby College’s Joseph Wright Campus will exhibit the work they have completed over the past year in a public end of year exhibition.

The students will be joined by family and friends for a private view on Tuesday June 14 when there will also be performances by Music and Performing Arts students. The Art & Design, Games Design and Media students’ work will then be available to view by the public from Wednesday to Friday (June 15 to 17) between 10am and 4pm and on Saturday June 18 between 10am to 1pm.

A new £3.1 million extension was completed at the Joseph Wright Campus last year to bring all A levels and academic and vocational Creative Arts study programmes together and this is the first time that the end of year exhibition has been held at the new facilities. The state of the art facilities for A level and vocational learners includes specialist art studios as well as equipment for print making, photography, ceramics and industry-standard IT facilities such as 3D design and textiles equipment. There are also dedicated areas for Music, Performing Arts and Games Design study programmes at JWC.

Head of Faculty Kate Martin explained: “We are delighted to be opening up the Joseph Wright Campus to the public so that they can see the high quality work that is completed by the learners as part of their study programmes. “The extension at the Joseph Wright Centre was in response to the continued increase in numbers of A level and BTEC vocational learners wanting to develop their skills in the creative arts. “Bringing everyone under one roof has enabled us to better share resources and expertise amongst staff and provide the best possible learner experience for our students. “We were also keen to bring all our Creative Arts students into the Cathedral Quarter which is the cultural and creative industry heart of the city and therefore a perfect environment for this faculty. “This has enabled students to engage fully with the surrounding Arts facilities, organisations and creative businesses to gain an insight into how the skills they are learning at College need to be adapted for the workplace and with the University of Derby to prepare students for higher education.”
