Derby Book Festival announces first ‘live’ event for 2020

Derby Book Festival organisers announce today their first ‘live’ children’s event at Déda on Tuesday 27 October. They will hold three sessions of a fun, interactive Collage Workshop with illustrator, Jane Porter for ages 5 – 8 years. Jane is the illustrator of Brian The Brave (written by Paul Stewart), winner of the 2020 Derby Children’s Book Award, sponsored by businesswoman Deborah Fern, which was announced in May.

The event, presented by Derby Book Festival and Derby Well, held during the schools’ half term holiday, will include the chance to hear Jane read the story and then she will show children how to create their own Brian the Brave crafts to take home using some of her collection of exciting paper scraps. Brian the Brave books will also be on sale and Jane will sign copies after the workshops.

The one-hour family group sessions will be held at 10.30am, 2pm and 4pm. You can book tables for family ‘bubbles’ of between 2 to 6 people from no more than 2 households (children and parents/carers). Table prices start at £10 for 2 people up to £30 for 6 people. All workshops will be set up at Covid-safe, socially distanced tables and all materials will be supplied in sealed bags for each child. Hand sanitiser will be provided at the entrance to the venue.

Liz Fothergill, Chair of Derby Book Festival, said: “We are thrilled to at last be able to hold our first ‘live’
event this year in one of our favourite Festival venues to inspire children through books and reading. Déda
has a great reputation for working with children and you can expect their usual high standards of
presentation, hygiene and customer care when you visit. We hope to bring more live events to our venues
over the coming months as we work towards our next Festival in 2021.”

Tickets must be booked in advance on a first come, first served basis and parents/carers will be required to supervise their children in the session.

If the workshops have to be cancelled, tickets will be refunded. For full details visit: https://deda.ticketsolve.com/shows/873622142/events/129334843
