DERBY ARBORETUM ARTISTS’ RESIDENCIES 2019-21
We are seeking initial expressions of interest from artists who would value a period of time in the Orangery to create and/or exhibit work. The artists would also be able to offer a Friday workshop. Over the next few years Arts and Wellbeing organisation All Being Well will be hosting the artist's residency programme on the park. All Being Well are in the process of writing a funding bid which will be adapted in accordance with successful applications.
What we are looking for
The Orangery is a focal point of the park and the interior can easily been seen from the outside. Our aim is to have ongoing displays , exhibitions and workshops to fully utilise the beautiful and historic building.
We are looking for committed artists who wish to undertake a self directed residency and/or exhibit existing work alongside weekly workshops.
Who this would benefit
Creatives who wish to develop or exhibit a body of work which is harmonious to the park environment and its community. This could also be an opportunity for an artist or organisation to develop their practice within an arts and Wellbeing context. The project would be most suited to individuals or groups who are happy to work independently although support is ongoing especially regarding the Friday workshops.
What we can provide
During the proposed period of time in the Orangery you will have 24/7 access to the space. The Orangery is a very large Victorian building which has great opportunities for creative activities, large scale work, installations and exhibitions . During your allocated time you would ordinarily be the only users of the space. The support in kind of the space, your expenses and workshop payment could also be used towards any grants or funding you may apply for and we would support any applications with additional information. Required workshop £100 per week Self directed residency includes free use of the space in exchange for artists proposed expenses. At this stage we are open to a variety of proposals and costings.
What we initially want from the artist
We are very aware of how time consuming it can be for freelance artists to spend time applying for a variety of opportunities. At this stage we ask for a simple proposal including, brief statement, images of work, workshop ideas and brief summary of how you would use and display work in the space.
Deadline : 31st July
We will notify everyone by 14th August
Successful applicants may then be asked for more information as we proceed with our funding application.
