DALEDIVA THANKS SUPPORTERS AS IT SETS OFF TO TAKE ON THE WORLD!

Derbyshire women’s chorus DaleDiva is saying a huge thank you to its fans and supporters as it sets off to compete in the World Championships next week.

Following more than a year fund-raising events the award-winning group is off to take on the world at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The Divas won gold in national competition last May which earned them the opportunity to represent their region and their country in the USA this year.

And as part of the preparations the chorus has been hard at work raising funds to make sure as many of the Divas could take part in the event.

It launched its ‘Going for Gold’ fund-raising campaign last year with events including a fashion show, grand auction, busking, car boot and jumble sales – and thanks to support from local residents, businesses and audiences has raised £29,000 and is all set to jet off to the States.

DaleDiva musical director Ally Law said: “We’ve had a fantastic year in the lead up to our World Championship debut and we can’t wait to perform the results of all our hard work on that famous MGM Grand stage in Las Vegas.

“But it’s an expensive adventure with travel and accommodation cost as well as costumes, music, coaching and extra rehearsals so we needed to make a concerted effort to ensure as many of the Divas could go as possible and I’m delighted to say we’ve achieved that.

“We’ve had an amazing response from our local community helping to boost our Going for Gold fund and to raise £29,000 is absolutely amazing – a fantastic team effort. We couldn’t have done it without the support we’ve had from people across the county and want to say a huge thanks to them all.

“Now we’ll be doing our best to make our county and our country proud by bringing that World Championship gold medal back to Derbyshire!”

The chorus will travel to the States on Friday (October 2) and take part in the Harmony Classic competition at the MGM Grand on Tuesday 6 October.

DaleDiva sings a variety of acapella pop, show tune and barbershop arrangements and now has almost 70 members aged 24 to 72 from Matlock, Wirksworth, Cromford, Belper, Derby and surrounding areas.

Since the chorus was formed seven years ago it has taken numerous medals on the national competition stage, performed as part of the BBC’s Last Choir Standing show and annual ‘Children in Need’ appeal and was invited to take part in Radio 3’s ‘Choir of the Year’ competition.

The Divas also won the final of Channel 5’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ search to find Britain’s best show choir and has now set its sights on ‘Going for Gold’ at the World Championships.
