Coming up at the Barn this autumn

Summer might be over, but there's still plenty of events coming up at the Barn over the next few weeks - we hope you'll be able to join us for some of the following talks and activities.

Remember to head to our website for further details on all of these and much more.

The Memoirs of Lady Ann Fanshawe

Thursday 30th September, 7:30pm | £4 (£2 Friends)

We're looking forward to welcoming Ann Brown to give the first Old Dronfield Society evening lecture of our new events programme at the end of September. Come along and hear the story of the life of Lady Ann Fanshawe - the daughter of Margaret Fanshawe, born at Fanshawegate, Holmesfield, in the Parish of Dronfield.

Dry Stone Walling Course

Wednesday 6th (9:30am-12pm) & Thursday 7th (9:30am-4pm) October | £60 (£54 Friends)

Have you ever wondered how dry stone walls are built or stay upright? Then join us on this two day course, being led by Mike Baker - one of the Barn's garden volunteers - and learn the history and technique of dry stone walling, before heading to Brunts Barn near Grindleford Railway Station on day two to put what you have learned into practice. This is ideal for anyone who loves being active and outdoors!

The Splendours of Autumn

Wednesday 6th October, 7:30pm | £4 (£2 Friends)

We're already starting to notice the change in season in our gardens, but autumn holds many more splendours than just the changing colours of the leaves. Join Steve Drinkall, a retired Wildlife & Landscape Photographer, as he explains more for the next of our Dronfield Wildlife & Natural History Group talks.

Sheffield Auction Gallery at the Barn

Thursday 30th September, 10am-2pm

Make sure you join us on the last Thursday of this month for the next of the free valuation roadshows, courtesy of Sheffield Auction Gallery.

Each month, you are able to bring along your items to have them valued by an expert. This time you can bring any ceramic and glass items along with other items such as china, silver, oriental items, jewellery, clocks, pictures and books. Alison Gillatt, a Senior Valuer at the auction gallery, will be at the Barn from 10am-2pm.

If you are unable to attend this month, please note that the next valuation roadshow will be held on Thursday 28th October.

Memories of Autumn 2020

Autumn is usually one of the most spectacular seasons in our gardens, and we're looking to seeing the wonderful again in the next few weeks. Spare a thought for our dedicated garden volunteers though, who probably won't be looking forward to lots of leaf clearing! Be sure to send any photos you take over the next couple of months with us, as we'd love to see them.
