R&D on translation processes at 1623 Theatre

1623's artistic director Ben Spiller, and associate artist Oliver Alvin Wilson, spent a week in London with a team of artists working on Shakespeare-to-BSL translations of scenes from MACBETH with The DH Ensemble (Deaf & Hearing Ensemble).


The week was an important step along the way to the making of FAIR IS FOUL a bilingual adaptation of MACBETH, next year. 

1623 Theatre Tour planning for QUEER LADY M

We are in the final stages of planning a 2020 nationwide tour for QUEER LADY M. By the time our next newsletter is out, we should be able to give you all details of the dates and venues.

Workshops with LGBT+ groups, performances at scratch nights and audience feedback have played a key role in shaping this show, which combines the autobiography of gender-fluid artist Shane Gabriel (who performs the show) and the story of Lady Macbeth.

From asking customers to bring their own containers for fresh produce and reducing use of cling-film as far as possible to cutting out plastic water bottles and straws completely, the family-owned farm shop says everyone has a part to play in reducing the impact we have on the planet.
