Pop Star of the Century

Author and politician Edwina Currie will present an award to the winner at Pop Star of the Century on Friday (July 14) at High Peak Bookstore, Brierlow Bar.

And she may just be rooting for John Lennon who won at the first Fringe show at the Pump Room Buxton last Friday. There Lennon defeated Agnetha of ABBA and Elvis.

Audiences vote the winner and singalong on the choruses. Artistes are represented in costume and masks.

Darley Abbey gin is so uncommonly good it’s available in Parliament

A Derbyshire gin manufacturer has brought a new kind of order to the House of Commons after its locally brewed tipple went on sale to thirsty MPs.

The Darley Abbey Distillery’s Uncommon Thread is now being served in Strangers’ Bar, in Parliament, where it is being enjoyed by MPs, Government ministers and their guests.

The juniper-led gin was created by Nichol and Andy Malia-Barlow, owners of the Darley Abbey Wine Bar and the Cottonworks restaurant, with friend Clare Lamert who has worked in the spirits and Champagne industry for several years.

Ethereal ‘Museum of the Moon’ Returns to Derby Cathedral

A breath-taking touring attraction will return to the city this Autumn accompanied by an extensive public events programme.

Rob and Anna Barlow, who run Wirksworth-based garden furniture business TDP, took a trip to the big smoke where Rob attended a reception at Buckingham Palace with King Charles III after the company was bestowed with the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise, for Sustainable Development.

Visit Peak District, Derbyshire and Derby, the accredited Local Visitor Economy Partnership for the region, launches its ‘Take a Peak’ campaign on Saturday 1 July.

OMEETO Marks Anniversary With Expansion

Commercial property agency OMEETO has marked its third anniversary with the appointment of its first degree apprentice and the move to new larger offices.

Director Chris Wright, who set up the company in 2020 with more than 23 years industry experience in senior roles and national and regional companies, has been joined by Ruby Scott Mullen.

Ruby, a former pupil at Ecclesbourne School in Duffield, plans to study part time for a degree in chartered surveying with real estate at Nottingham Trent University alongside gaining practical work experience with OMEETO.
