Sinfonia Viva Online Performances Showcase County Jewels

Sinfonia Viva, the Grammy-nominated Orchestra of the East Midlands, has recorded a series of 45-minute chamber performances at three iconic Derbyshire venues which will be available online for classic music lovers to enjoy.

Members of the Sinfonia Viva String Quartet, directed by Orchestra leader Sophie Rosa, have recorded their performance in the chapel at Chatsworth House and the beautiful surroundings have inspired an evocative programme of classics.

DCG Students Step Up To Support Vaccination Programme

A group of Public Services students from Derby College Group’s Broomfield Hall are to carry out important marshalling duties at Derbyshire’s largest Covid-19 vaccine centre.

The 22 students will be working at Derby Arena over the coming months as part of their study programme to gain work experience and an insight into some of the roles within the emergency services.

DCG Student Spearheads Mental Health Society

Derby College A Level student Bhavan Bains has spearheaded the launch of a new Student Mental Health Society to support and motivate her peers during the continued pandemic.

The society, which is currently meeting online, aims to help students learn and share knowledge with each other and instigate conversations to breakdown the stigma around mental health.

Society members are also producing podcasts to share with the college community on such issues as the importance of sleep and digital downtime.

Timms Solicitors Advocate HR Planning To Avoid Costly Disputes

The UK is in the midst of a ‘rising redundancy tsunami’ with employers in danger of facing dramatic increases in disputes and Tribunal claims, according to Timms Solicitors’ Employment Law specialist Emma Spandrzyk.

She continued that it was therefore vital that employers took advice before proceeding with redundancy, absence management or dismissals and plan their future workforce requirements ahead of the end of furlough arrangements at the end of April. 

Local Families Raise Vital Funds For Safe and Sound

The Rotary Club of Derby have presented local charity Safe and Sound with a cheque for £1,500 following a successful virtual Santa Sleigh project throughout December.

The organisation had to adapt its annual Santa Sleigh due to the pandemic and worked with charity partners and Derby digital agency Think3 to enable families across the county and beyond to book a personalised letter or recorded video from Santa in return for a donation.

How China Petals grew a business despite a Global Pandemic

Banks Mill Studios on Bridge Street in Derby is a hub for creative businesses and just before the first Lockdown in March 2020 welcomed mosaic artist Diane Daley.  Diane runs China Petals which makes personal keepsakes out of fine bone china.  

Launching a creative business is hard at the best of times, however Diane has adapted her business and has successfully diversified during her first year, to ensure her business is thriving in challenging times.

Sinfonia Viva Chief Executive Announces Retirement

The chief executive of Grammy-nominated Sinfonia Viva, the East Midlands’ professional orchestra, is to retire at the end of April after 26 years with the organisation.

Peter Helps, who was awarded an MBE in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to arts and culture, has been at the helm of the Derby-based Orchestra since 1995 – steering it through challenging times.
