Dance Fantastic at St Peters Quarter Live

Visitors to St Peters Quarter on Saturday May 12 will be treated to a day of free live entertainment at the Spot between 11am and 3pm.

St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) has secured a £10,000 grant from National Lottery Awards for All – Big Lottery Fund to stage eight SPQ Live street entertainment days during the year, also supported by Derby City Council.

The first was held mid April which provided a day of music for all to enjoy at the Spot, St Peters Quarter.

Shoppers’ views at the heart of great quality and customer service at Croots Farm Shop

Shoppers at Croots Farm Shop and Café in Derbyshire are helping to shape the business’s future and its commitment to quality and great customer service.

The shop and café, which first opened in June 2008, asked randomly-selected customers what they liked about Croots and where improvements could be made.

In the shop, the butchery counter emerged as a firm favourite with its commitment to locally sourced meat – scoring ten out of ten. While the café’s full English breakfasts and cakes were overwhelmingly singled out as a reason to visit.

Medal Haul Continues for Derby College Student

Derby College Sports student Justin Taylor-Tipton (17) from West Hallam recently returned from Switzerland with a clutch more medals in Freestyle Skiing.

Justin, a former pupil at Kirk Hallam Community Academy, is studying Sports Coaching at the College’s Broomfield Hall campus and spends the winter season training in Switzerland.

Russell Brand Re:Birth tour postponed indefinitely

Due to the tragic incident involving Russell Brand’s Mother last week, Russell Brand has decided to postpone his Re:Birth tour indefinitely. Russell Brand was due to perform at Derby Arena on Wednesday 9 May.

Russell Brand’s management, said in a statement: “Due to Russell’s mother remaining in a critical condition following a road accident last week, his promoters regrettably announce the indefinite postponement of his remaining Re:Birth tour dates.

“Ticketholders will be automatically refunded via their point of purchase.”

Canal Trust Appeals For More Hands, Hearts and Minds

The Derby & Sandiacre Canal Trust has launched an appeal for more local people to help them in their work to bring the former Derby Canal back to its former glory.

The Trust was founded in 1993 with the ultimate aim of restoring a 12.5 mile stretch between Derby and Sandiacre to connect to the Trent and Mersey and Erewash Canals.  This would create a 25 mile cruising ring with access to more than 2,000 miles of navigable waterways across the UK.

BIDs Secure Travel Discount for City Centre Workers

The Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) have negotiated a special deal with bus company Arriva for people working in the two BID areas.

Employees at hundreds of businesses located in the Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter BID areas can now travel to and from work with discounted monthly tickets on Arriva buses – saving them up to £310 a year on standard fares.

Travel is unlimited - seven days a week - and two children can also travel free with the ticket holder at weekends and bank holidays.

Dying Matters Event Highlights Importance of Discussing Death

Family-owned funeral directors G Wathall & Son have teamed up with other local organisations to break down the taboos of discussing dying, death and bereavement.

An information event will be held at QUAD in the Market Place on Friday May 18 between 10.30am and 2.30pm as part of Dying Matters awareness week (w/c May 14) which this year asks the question - ‘What Can You Do?’.
