THE ARKWRIGHT SOCIETY’S INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION CONFERENCE AT CROMFORD MILLS.

HOW DID MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN FARE IN THE DAWN OF MODERN CAPITALISM? WHAT EFFECT DID NEW WAYS OF WORK HAVE ON THE BODIES OF WORKERS?  WHAT EDUCATION DID THE WORKERS RECEIVE? WHEN AND HOW DID THEY GET LEGAL PROTECTION?

These are some of the subjects being discussed at the 5th Arkwright Society’s Industrial Revolution Conference taking place on Saturday 29 September 2018.  Leading experts on the Industrial Revolution will join us at the iconic Cromford Mills to give their views on the time when Britain changed dramatically, and what this meant for all workers.

One week to go: Home-grown talent leads the way at this year’s Wirksworth Festival

Final preparations are being made as Wirksworth Festival 2018 gets underway 7 – 23 September. Now in its 24th year, the Festival is an annual two-week celebration of contemporary art, performance, music and the community in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales.

This year’s Festival is very much about home-grown talent, recognising the huge pool of talent that resides in this part of the country; they are joined by some great artists and performers from across the country and abroad.

New museum exhibition recalls ancient Derbyshire atrocity

A new display at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery will commemorate the victims of a massacre in Derbyshire 2,600 years ago.

The multi-sensory exhibition, called Lullaby of the Larks, has been created by composer Amanda Johnson and artist Richard Johnson during their 2-year artistic residency at our only museum and art gallery.

Life drawing session - Sunday 16th September

Monthly Life Drawing at StraightCurves. Life model is Stuart ,the untutored session starts at 10am and will finish at around 12.30pm, including a 30 minute break part-way through.

Refreshments are available and included within the price but you are welcome to bring your own along if you wish. The session costs £12.50 and you will need to bring your own drawing materials and equipment along for use during the session.

Dance Theatre Uncovers the Real Story of Romeo and Juliet

Lost Dog present their brand new show ‘Juliet and Romeo’ at Déda this autumn on Thursday 4 October at 7.30pm. The critically acclaimed performance sees Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet, having survived but now in their 40s, in the midst of a mid-life crisis.

World Premiere of 'Will Ye go to Flanders' comes to Spital Arts

Devised by well known singer & musician Lester Simpson and Chesterfield musician Nigel Corbett.  A completely new show as part of the commemorations of the end of World War 1.

This event will be hosted at Spital Arts on Friday September 21st at 7.30pm
